Cork yoga mat at Yoga Yangchen studio in Thimphu

On a Permanent Field Trip

I had a really nice time at yoga this morning at Yoga Yangchen.

I was on my cork mat.

After class, I was chatting with a member of the community here in Thimphu.

A familiar connection.

The father of a student I used to teach.

He asked if I’d be offering more kids classes.

I mentioned I was trying to understand my wine work schedule first.

Waiting to see what the rhythm of it becomes.

Then the questions shifted.

From yoga to wine.

Viticulture.

How long it takes to make a vintage.

About a year to grow and care for the grapes before they’re picked and made into wine.

Then it ages. For however long.

I answered as best I could.

Still learning wine myself.

I told him he should read the blog.
This one.

That I’m documenting it as I go.

It felt good.

To talk about the company.

The process.

This project.

A different kind of classroom.

With someone who first knew me as a teacher.

I still am.

But the classroom is on a permanent field trip.

It’s grounding in a different way.

At some point, I could feel others leaning in.

Listening.

Not in a big way.

Just a quiet widening of attention.

It felt… awesome.
